Re: Hiatal hernia. Annoying little buggers.
I was diagnosed with a hiatus hernia about 5/6 years ago, after having cameras down at both ends

The specialist advised 2x 15mg Lanzoprazole a day

My GP said he'd try me on just 1x a day & suggested trying to work out which foodstuffs caused problems

I followed my GP's advice, which turned out to be good

Obviously steer clear of spicy foods

Onions, leeks, some cheeses, heavy pastry, (pies!) & in particular, the single large glass of red wine I was having every night, turned out to be the chief culprits

I substituted the red wine for a single can of Guinness, most nights & avoid all the others altogether

Gradually I've got to the point now where I always have some 15mg Lanzoprazole tablets handy but only take one when needed, which is now quite rare. One a month, if that!

Re: Hiatal hernia. Annoying little buggers.
I've got a blood clot in my superior mesenteric vein that has led to portal hypertension which I've had four operations for. Basically the blood backs up and blows the vein out like a balloon except a balloon isn't usually full of blood.

Anyway, I went to my GP because my belly-button changed shape and he knew straight away that it was an umbilical hernia and referred me to the hospital minor surgery department. He said I'd probably ripped it in the gym and it was an easy fix.

I went to the appointment and the surgeon told me they wouldn't touch it as it was a highly dangerous procedure in my case.

He said that usually they just go in and stitch the hole up but in my case if they nicked my portal vein (which is right next to the hole) it would basically explode and I'd be dead in under a minute!

He said 'keep an eye on it and if something happens we'll address it then'. I said 'something happens? Do you mean "if my guts spill out"? He said 'exactly!'

I think I'm going to live with a funny shaped belly-button after all.

'Hiatal hernia' Joe?

Poof!

Seriously, I really do urge any of you getting a hernia op to do your research. It could be one of the most important decisions in your life.

There are so many people in pain from mesh surgery.

Mine didn't start until five years after the op. I was at a wedding last year and the pain was just unbelievable - I had to sit down.

I wish I could turn back the clock and avoid the mesh.

There are many medical authorities in the US now avoiding the mesh. People are suing.

Nothing hurts as such it just feels like food is backed up .

Will try the vinegar , seems to have a lot of uses.

Re: Hiatal hernia. Annoying little buggers.
Try drinking some hot apple cider vinegar every morning.

tea spoon of biona organic apple cider vinegar in a mug of hot water. Get it form boots for about 3 quid, only large stores or online

I promise you that if you do it, then within a week you wont feel anything. when i first took it i could literally feel the pain and acid go down as i was drinking it.

I was given the same tablets as Ted and haven't had to take them for the past 18 months since i started having the ACV.

try it a syou have nohtng to lose even if it doesnt work have you...

I had triple hernia surgery in February after having hernia surgery 9 years ago. I now have 2 meshes on the inside of my stomach and one on the outside along with stitches around the belly button area.

My stomach is basically a belt now.

Re: Hiatal hernia. Annoying little buggers.
I had the iguine hernia done laproscopically on nhs and ended up with the other hernia (round the belly button) sorted out with full-fat open surgery with bupa.

Both fully healed without any complications now.

In fact, I just moved over a ton of tiles this morning with no aggro at all.

Re: Hiatal hernia. Annoying little buggers.
Need to be careful if you have an op.

I had hernia surgery 10 years ago - now the groin can kill after exercise. Yours is on a different part of body but be wary of surgery.

inguinodynia - google it. People are now suing over mesh insertion and pain at site years after. Big medical issue.
